I have had this question in my head for the last few years, it seems to ring especially true recently, first take four and some odd minutes and watch this captivating video, I have been reading books, publications, visiting websites on the subject, and have been trying to compile a list for my own personal records. The net net of all of this and what is means for an American perspective is that we need to reinforce our educational systems, and quick. My research and additional comments are posted below.
After watching this video two words come to mind, science and technology, and the many facets of both are broad, from medical and genetic research, to the shifts in communications, and the way we communicate as we know it, the paradigm shift is occurring right now on all fronts. The question is, will America be able to produce innovators that will lead the way, or will we become followers of technologies that were created in other countries? I don’t think so!, but I have to say the answer to that question is complex based on the rate at which some other countries are producing Scientists, engineers, Doctors, and medical research professionals.
As Americans must rise to the challenge of the twenty-first century and place importance back on God, community, and education.
I am stepping down from my soapbox.
I have personally made new goals for higher education based on my research, and other individuals research whom are much smarter than myself.
But really, what will be the top in demand jobs and careers for 2010 and beyond?
Software engineers for computers and computer systems – If the information in the video was even half right which I am sure it is more than half right
, the demand for these types of jobs would surely be at a 50 to 75% growth rate.
Network and computer support specialists – Someone will have to maintain all those computers, and computer networks, I work in the industry, and I know that everything has an average mean time to failure.
Information System Managers that oversee all the techno-geeks like me that keep thing running smoothly.
Database administrators – All of these millions of applications and running servers and computers have complex databases that need to be maintained and kept free from of corruption and running smoothly.
Note: With this exponential growth in technology, these workers will also be needed to install and maintain all of the new equipment that will be required to run the worlds information systems.
Customer service reps- To answer all of the support calls and solve technical problems for all of these computer systems, and the softwares, and databases, and web applications that run on them etc… etc…
Desktop publishers- OK all you copywriters, photo-shop experts, etc… with the state of the economy, and the technologies that are available now, I think businesses will look for people with these additional skills to create publications in-house.
Healthcare professionals- From Doctors, Nurses, Physicians assistants, Physical therapists, Surgeons, down to the lowest rung hospital and health care workers. Let’s face it, millions of baby boomers are coming of age, literally, there will be more elderly people that ever before, living longer, and many will be in need of quality health-care.
Quality top notch Sales people- Sales can be very lucrative if you are good, although more and more, sales people will need to be more technically adept at grasping and conveying the concepts of ever increasing complex solutions to their prospective customers.
Criminal justice workers- More people equal more crime, more crime equals more need to process and prosecute the bad people who commit the crimes. nuf said
Teachers and professors – How could I have forgotten, someone has to teach all the people to read and write, and be able perform all of those technically challenging jobs, and must I say God bless them.
I will be adding to this list dynamically as I observe and read current events and try to keep my head above the proverbial technical sea of information.
In summary, the bottom line is we all need to advance our careers in some way. I found a few nice consolidated educational career search sites that I have been looking at, here are the links:

This is a great site, I’ll be checking back later
Super site! I am loving it! Will surely come back again – taking your feeds also, Thanks.
Good, thanks for the guide. The future is here!
Wow…That video just blew me away. It’s ironic that in the US today, the ones having more kids are the poor and uneducated. Despite having more Americans graduating with a 4-year degree these days, I don’t see how we can compete with China and India 30-40 years from now.
I??ve learned so much from this blog. Hopefully others can find value in my site as well.
The facts you give in your article are really interesting and a bit shocking, too. But as for the jobs perhaps even now they are among the most popular ones now.
We should thank you for posting such a terrific website. Your blog was not only informative but also very inventive too. There are only few experts who can think to create not so easy stuff that creatively. All of us keep looking for articles regarding something like this. I Myself searched through many blogs to build up on information with respect to this.Looking for much more information from you !!
We should thank you for creating such a creative weblog. Your weblog is not just useful but also very creative too. There are a limited number of bloggers who can think to write technical articles that creatively. we are on the lookout for articles about this topic. We ourselves have looked through many websites to acquire knowhow with respect to this.We look forward to the next posts !!
This is very educational. We are going to be reading alot this year. We hope you have a good year this year.
It is very good to Know what jobs are going to be good for the future.
Healthcare, Education, and Justice will always be where the jobs are at. There is always a need for all three areas. Computer stuff will come and g oand a lot of those jobs will be taken over by…computers.
I have no doubt that most young adults will go into the computer industry.
I think most of them will be online jobs or computer related.
And I will add this here: As a person who has a Masters degree in Information Systems, and years of IT experience, and being out of work over 3 years, to say people need to go a degree in computers is VERY risky. If the rate of change continues at this rate, look for the whole educational approach to prove itself useless.
