R.I.P. Grasshopper David Carradine Kung Fu one of my all time favorite 1970’s TV series

Sad news this morning, David Carradine has been found dead in a hotel in Bangkok Thailand.
David Carradine played the starring role in the 1970’s Kung Fu TV series, It was one of my favorite shows that I regularly watched. A while back I rented the entire series and watched them again just to introduce some old school stuff to my kids, unfortunately it could not hold their attention for long, it’s a shame cause I loved it as a kid.

David Carradine was 73 and it appears from the first news reports that came in that he died of natural causes, but now news agencies are reporting that he was believed to have committed suicide by hanging himself in his hotel room. Either way it is still sad to see him pass.

There is a lot of information about David Carradine and the all time popular TV series that he starred in on the wikipedia page here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kung_Fu_(TV_series)

Also here are some of the news stories about David Carradine’s death.

Guadalcanal Diary the 80’s were great Watusi Rodeo 1983 YouTube

In the early 80’s I was lucky enough to make the acquaintance of a guy by the name of Jeff Walls, at the time we worked together at an electronics manufacturer in Marietta Ga. Jeff introduced me to his friends who had formed a band called Guadalcanal Diary. It was great to see Jeff and the band find the success that they did in the 80’s. It was great to see them get off the rat race wheel and make it big with several albums. Music seems to take people on a great ride in life.

Jeff is a great guitarist, the last time I checked he was playing guitar with an Atlanta based band called
The Woggles, he definately has a crisp unique guitar playing style.

I was lucky enough to see Guadalcanal Diary play many times in the early days, and to I to see them play at the Strand Cabaret, a club in Marietta Ga. that was in the basement of the now revived Strand Theater.

I found this video on YouTube of an MTV music video with Nina Blackwood as the host.
Now that is the way I remember MTV when it was just Music Videos, man they have strayed so far from who they use to be.

Enjoy this 1983 MTV video on YouTube Video of Guadalcanal Diary doing Watusi Rodeo.

John Mayer Belief Webster Hall NY youtube video Lyrics that make you think

Think about this, you where raised to believe certain things about the world around you, seen and unseen.
As you grow older hopefully you use the brain that God gave you and seek the truth out for yourself.

The words to this song are so true, can anyone really change beliefs?
We need to get out of that business.

Belief Lyrics

Is there anyone who
Ever remembers
Changing their mind from
The paint on a sign
Is there anyone who
Really recalls
Ever breaking rank at all
For something someone yelled real loud one time

Oh everyone believes
In how they think it oughta be
Oh everyone believes
And they’re not going easily

Belief is a beautiful armor
But makes for the heaviest sword
Like punching underwater
You never can hit who you trying for
Some need the exhibition
Some have to know their trying
It’s the chemical weapon for the war
That’s raging on inside

Oh everyone believes
From emptiness to everything
Oh everyone believes
No one’s going quietly

We’re never gonna win the world
We’re never gonna stop the war
We’re never gonna beat this
If belief is what we’re fighting for
We’re never gonna win the world
We’re never gonna stop the war
We’re never gonna beat this
If belief is what we’re fighting for

Is there anyone who
Can remember
Ever surrendering
With their life on the line

What puts a hundred thousand children in the sand?
Belief can
Belief can
What puts a folded flag inside his mother’s hands?
Belief can
Belief can

Slumdog millionaire a movie worth watching

In a world where movies are being churned out of Hollywood like cars rolling off a production line, the movie slumdog millionaire is one that stands out from the everyday, and tells a wonderful story of hope and love.  Hope that anyone that is in the most destitute of situations, still has hope and a chance for a new life. This story places integrity back in a place where it rightfully belongs. If there is one movie worth watching this year it is slumdog millionaire. Inspiring and gives you an appreciation for the life we have, and the feeling that maybe your situation, whatever it may be, really is not that bad. Never give up, and remember love always endures.

I can tell you, if you walk away from this movie not feeling good, you may want to go see a shrink.

Adding acai berry to my regimen of anti-ageing supplements

Reading lately about acai, it is Pronounced  ‘ah-sigh-ee’, and acai is derived from the pulp of a berry that comes from the amazon. It is powerful antioxidant that falls in line with other brightly colored foods like blueberries, sweet potatoes, broccoli, tomatoes, acia is supposedly better for you than blueberries.

Apparently it has been a staple part of the Amazonian diet for hundreds of years. Anti-ageing expert Dr Nicholas Perricone wrote about it in his book “The Perricone Promise” and called it the number one super food.

You can get it either in a juice form, or as a supplement, I checked out what manufacturers are producing it, and since this supplement has been around for several years now it looks like my old standby Natrol is producing it. Based on my positive experience with Natrol supplements and their purity, I have decided to add acai along with resveratrol to my regimen of anti-ageing supplements.

Tiger onitsuka tennis / running shoes were one of my favorite shoes when I was a teenager

Some people will say grow up dude, quit dwelling on your teenage years. And though I know these are the good ole days, I have to say those days where the good ole days too.

I found my all time favorite shoe today, it was not the best tennis or running shoe but I wore these things out over and over again, I hear that their popularity has surged in recent years.

They definately have a 70’s retro look.

Got to get some soon.

What is the best GPS on the market ? The magellan 5310 is looking good.

I have been poking around on the web trying to find the best GPS that is out there at the present moment.
I really don’t want to take any more trips without one. It has to have the latest features, and be portable so that I can move it easily to any vehicle, and it should be easy to grab new maps that are available via a download / update. eBay use to be my site of choice, but I really got sick of bidding on stuff and waiting, lately Amazon is the place where I do lots of research if I am looking for a new gadget.

Now GPS devices don’t fall in the category of “new technology” by any means, but I am usually a late adopter of certain technologies, as I tend to wait till the dust settles and I have a good selection to choose from, and then I can read all the product forum reviews, as the customers tell the true story of the salt of a product.

Another reason I am a late adopter of technology is because once the competition heats up the price always comes down, and that is definitely the case with GPS technology.

After reading product review after product review, I think I have settled on the Magellan 5310, it has a five inch screen with large fonts, and comes pre-loaded with US and Canadian maps, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.
It is totally portable so that is what I need, this is going to come in handy on 285 when the traffic is backed up to kingdom come. Also looking forward to using the restaurant / points of interest locator when we are out of town.

Does resveratrol in wine and supplements provide any cancer fighting potential ?

Does resveratrol in wine and supplements provide any cancer fighting potential?
That is a big question.

I believe there are already some breakthroughs being made as it relates to the potential of resveratrol to slow the aging process, as well as studies that show poly-phenols ability to fight cancer cells in a lab environment.

I was surfing around tonight and found this interesting article related to this, now I am sure that the folks at Wine Spectator are excited about the recent research on resveratrol as well. I know that as I stated in my previous post on resveratrol here , you red wine drinkers out there won’t stop drinking it just because the research shows that you would have to consume mass quantities of it to ingest enough resveratrol to do any real good, but based in the wine spectator article, it looks like there are other properties in red wine that may provide health benefits as well.

Here is the article I ran across

Wine Chemicals Show Cancer-Fighting Potential
Wine Spectator, CA
When the scientists exposed human breast cancer cells in the lab to a combination of three polyphenols commonly found in red wine—resveratrol, quercetin and cathechin—they found that the rate of cell death was 40 percent to 55 percent greater than when

My take on this is that if one is a wine drinker and wants to realize the full benefits of resveratrol that they should take a resveratrol supplement and continue to drink their wine in moderation.

For medical reasons I have not been able to drink wine as it seems to interact with a blood pressure medication that I take. Maybe I should find another BP Med. :)

Here is a link to my previous post on the benefits of resveratrol:
